 Holiday Contest
« Thread Started on Dec 16, 2007, 5:11pm »

This contest is open to anyone and everyone who wishes to enter.

After some thought, I've indeed decided to go with a contest while the comic is on hiatus.

Yes, I'm sure some of you may be like, "Well, Kevin, couldn't you just put out a comic or two instead of this contest thing?"

I suppose I could, but I'm going to be away from my computer for a week-and-a-half as of Wednesday, and won't be able to put out anything that great.

So a contest is what's going down, whether or not you like it.

Here are the details:

What do I do?
The premise of this contest is to amuse me with the greatest holiday fantasy parody possible in a fantasy setting. The most appealing creations will be those that are based around a Dungeons and Dragons theme(I mean, hey, these are the Reliquary forums and Reliquary is D&D-based...), though it's not a necessity by far. Just something holiday and fantasy based will be adequate. This can be presented in any way you wish; a story, a piece of art, a song, or even a simple character sheet with themed stuff, just to name a few examples. Be as creative as possible, but MAKE SURE IT'S YOUR OWN WORK! I don't condone plagiarism here. This isn't limited to character creation(though characters DO really appeal to me...), so feel free to make holiday monsters, magic items, armor, weapons, etcetera. A guy or girl in holiday-themed gear will still count as a character, unless you explicitly specify what item or what-not you want to be the entry.

How do I get it to you?
The easiest way to do this would be to submit a link to your work or such as a reply to this thread. If that won't work, send an e-mail to me at: mrbob0822@yahoo.com

What's the deadline?
I'll accept entries up to January 1st. I'm pretty loose with this deadline, so if I get an entry at 1:50am on January 1st, I'll probably still accept it. Just be aware that anything submitted after the first will be subject to acceptance at my discretion. That means it's ADVISED you get it in before then.

What do I get?
I'm only deciding on a single winner of this contest; no runners-up. The winner will receive his/her creation in Reliquary-style, drawn and colored digitally.

Other info:
I'll accept up to three entries per-individual. I thought about taking as many as anyone wanted, but I'm sure someone would press that to the extreme, so only three per-person, please.

Any questions? Let me know here.

With that said, best of luck and Happy Holidays!

so both of my entries are unfinished because I ran out of time.... but they are going up anyway.

Silent Knight
Holy Knight
Orcs come under bright torch light
Run young virgin, mother and child
Salted infant so tender and mildly spiced
Eat the heavenly pieces, eat the heavenly pieces

Silent Knight
Holy Knight
Civilians quake at the site
Blood streams from everywhere
????????????????????????????
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born

Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from thy Holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth

My good buddy Nick sent me an entry as well. I'll post it from my e-mail to here just to have everything in one place.

Quote:
Constantine The Snowman King

The snowman king
set a crown
upon his frosted brow
"I'm Constantine
the snowman king"
he declared to the crowd

The snowman lord
had buttons black
and carrot for a nose
and for a sword
from frozen sheath
an icicle he rose

'Oh subjects cold
I had a dream
that when we go to fight
a cross so bold
upon our shield
will give us divine might'

The snowman king
called Constantine
had crosses painted red
on the face
of every shield
which we might call a sled

To war they went
against the horde
of barbarous gingerbread
Candycanes bent,
icicles broke,
but the gingers were left dead

'The cross hath saved
our snowy land
and so shall it be our sign'
the snowman raved
the snowmen danced
beneath the frozen pines

Judging will take place tomorrow.

If anyone would like to revise or submit their entries, you have until then to do so.

He would of course, be an evil cleric...

I was going to do a lot more, but I dawdled. I whipped this together with my awesome new drawing tablet (thanks Kevin!). Expect much better things! (apparently I suck at drawing feet)

"D&D is a sort of simulation. A simulation of living in a fantasy world where fearless heroes and dreadful monsters clash daily in spectacular battles. A world where you are a great champion, and the creator of the universe is frequently disorganized, highly distractable, and alarmingly vague on the rules of the universe he’s trying to run." -Shamus

I lol'd.

I think I'd be afraid if Scrooge was indeed a cleric. Especially at later levels.

"You there, boy!"
"Me sah?"
"What day is it?"
"Todai, sah? Whoi et's Chris'mas dai!"
"Then I haven't missed it! You know that goose in the window of the corner shop?"
"The one as big as me, sah?"
"NO! The one as char-broiled as you!" *FLAME STRIKE* "You remind me of it! AAAHHHHAHAHAHAHHAHH!"

As I said, any changes to entries or additional entries will be accepted until tomorrow.

From the few I've seen this should be a difficult judging as I've had plenty of silly visuals for each entry.

After a fair amount of thought and reflection, as well as multiple opinions from other parties on the topic of judging, I've narrowed down the winning entry. As typical as it may sound, it was indeed a tough decision, even considering there were only five entries.

I deem the victor of this holiday contest to be Kemporer. His "Xmas" monster brought about a great deal of imagery to mind and struck a decent corollary with how consuming Christmas has become.

Congratulations to him. I'll get to work on the render as soon as I get Photoshop and Mr. T(my Wacom tablet) squared away on my new computer, Nyx. (Thanks, Isaac!)

I hope everyone's holiday was refreshing and enjoyable.

Reliquary should be up and running again soon!
